John, you misunderstand the ratio. Currently the ratio is 19. Price if gold 1300 divided into the Dow - 19. When fear hits the markets, the markets go down and gold goes up. So, Gold and markets work in opposites. If markets go down 50%, gold goes up 50%, Dow 12500, Gold 1950 = a ratio of 6.4. A measure successful in catching the the bottom and tops (thereabouts) Worked for the last hundred years - who's to argue. Sell stocks at 15 - buy gold Sell gold at 5 - buy stocks
