Bio-based products are rapidly transforming the industrial landscape, offering sustainable alternatives to their fossil-based counterparts. Our patented Goldilocks® technology converts a wide range of agricultural- and forestry residues into various grades of bio-based crude oil.
Inspired by the eponymous fairy tale, our process is neither too severe nor too mild, thereby mobilizing biomass into an oil, whilst retaining high-value natural functionalities of its constituent components.
For example, cellulose is mobilized into so-called crude sugar oil (CSO®), which can be used for food/feed purposes, fermented to ethanol, or blended into heavy fuel oil (HFO) as a sustainable marine fuel (SMF) using proprietary emulsification technology developed by our partner Quadrise Plc.
Lignin, another principal compound in biomass, is transformed into a crude lignin oil (CLO®) that like CSO® can be positioned as an SMF, but also still contains native antimicrobial, UV stabilization, and antioxidant properties for pharma applications. We just announced a partnership with Raízen to work on lignin valorization alongside our earlier partners in the SMF space, A.P. Moller - Maersk, Wärtsilä, and CNR-STEMS.
This delicate balance that is at the heart of the Goldilocks® approach makes our bio-crudes unique. No other crude oil, produced from residual biomass, can be eaten, used in pharma applications, and fed into an internal combustion engine.
