United States-based investment firms are facing issues with clearing Russian securities from their portfolios in the aftermath of sanctions Washington had imposed against Moscow, The Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday.

Certain companies are considering asking the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for measures that could ease some of their problems, such as "the proportion of illiquid securities that funds can hold" and "rules governing redemptions," anonymous sources told the newspaper.

A BlackRock Inc. spokesperson confirmed that the investment management firm is "actively consulting with regulators, index providers, and other market participants" about the issue of Russian securities
