Zenova secures £2 million a year contract for its products in Australia
Under the contract, Spark will become an Authorised Distributor of Zenova products in Australia and has committed to purchase a minimum of £2 million of Zenova's products each year, including Zenova's insulating render (IR), insulating paint (IP) and fire-resistant paint (FP). The initial three-year contract can also be extended if certain conditions are met.
Commenting on the news, Tony Crawley, Chief Executive of Zenova Group PLC said: "Securing this contract is a significant development for Zenova. It marks the culmination of several months' work by both parties, including independent testing of our products by Spark, and truly highlights the global potential for Zenova's heat management and fire safety products.
The global passive fire protection market size was valued at USD 3.83 billion in 2019 and is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.7% from 2020 to 2027. Increasing investments in the exploration and production activities by oil and gas companies, coupled with technological advancements in the sector, are expected to fuel the market growth over the forecast period. The passive fire protection systems facilitate the protection of steel structures against fire by providing high strength and durability to the structure. The safety of any passive fire protection system is dependent on the type of fire, duration, substrate type and material, and environmental conditions.
The penetration of passive fire protection products in the U.S. is high owing to the stringent regulatory scenario and growing awareness regarding fire safety among the end-users.

Wildfires have become more frequent in Britain because of climate change and fire services must prepare for “more flammable landscapes” similar to Spain and the United States, according to scientists.
The number of wildfires was well above the long-term average last year, continuing a trend in place since 2018. Several devastating fires have occurred this year.
Seventy-five large fires, covering at least six hectares, were recorded last year. This number was exceeded only in 2019, according to analysis of records going back to 2008 by the London School of Economics (LSE).
In 2014 one large fire was recorded. This increased to four in 2016, then 17 in 2017 and 74 a year later. Last year 13,793 hectares were burnt, compared with 85 in 2014. Last month significant wildfires occurred at Marsden Moor near Huddersfield and the Mourne Mountains in Co Down.
Separate government figures obtained by Lord Botham, the former England cricketer, show a corresponding increase in carbon dioxide emissions from wildfires from 4,000 tonnes in 2015 to 294,000 tonnes in 2019.
Dr Tom Smith, assistant professor in environmental geography at LSE, said: “Whereas once there would be a big fire year every few years, now it is becoming annual. We need to be prepared for more flammable landscapes. This preparation has already started with specialist wildfire teams and tactical advisers being appointed in fire and rescue services up and down the country.”
He said that firefighters in Britain were learning from those in Spain, South Africa and the US, which “currently face a fire risk that we might see in the coming decades”.
Smith said that climate change was contributing to the risk by increasing the probability of dry spells and heatwaves. Other factors included an increase in visitors with campfires and changes in land management. “Traditional land management practices of using fire or grazing to thin moorland vegetation have been abandoned in many places, leading to more fuel availability on the ground,” he said.
Botham said that the recent ban on disposable barbecues in parts of Dorset and Hampshire would help, and that the restrictions should extend to sky lanterns and fireworks. He said that more winter burns of excess vegetation were needed to create firebreaks.

The world is advancing at a pace faster than ever before. And while we are witnessing unprecedented advancements in many aspects of our lives, some industries haven’t changed in decades.
As just one example, while there have been a plethora of advancements in building construction over the last 50 years, fire and thermal barrier improvements have remained virtually stagnant. As a more focused example, today’s building furnishings and materials are far more flammable now, and smoke emitted from accidental fires is more toxic than ever before, yet we are still relying on fire safety solutions from the 1970’s!
Zenova is about to change that, starting with a range of innovative paints and coverings that you have to see to believe

Recent heatwaves and wildfires around the world have caused alarm - with warnings that parts of Europe and North America could be experiencing the worst fire season ever.
California hit hard
Parts of the western US have seen record-breaking temperatures this year, which - along with severe drought conditions - have triggered a series of major wildfires.
So far this year in California, more than twice as many acres of land have been burned by wildfires compared with the five-year average.

Following a number of highly successful tests
Zenova Group
(ZED
) has unveiled the launch of its Zenova WB wildfire product which will be used as part of firefighting toolkits in the wildland.
Zenova, which develops fire safety and heat management technology products, said WB has been embraced by the University of Exeter’s highly respected wildFIRE Lab, an independent organisation that conducts leading research on fire behaviour and fire effects on ecosystems.
The testing of WB was led by Professor Claire Belcher, Director of the wildFIRE lab at the University of Exeter and a renowned expert in the transmission and causes of wildfires.
In standard laboratory-controlled conditions, Zenova WB was found to prevent ignition and flaming of dry grass fuels that were treated with it. Despite exposures to temperatures of ~750oC, no heat was emitted from the dry-grass fuel and smouldering was prevented.
Following the studies, Belcher concluded: “We tested Zenova WB fluid in controlled conditions in the laboratory and I was amazed by its ability to prevent ignition and spread of fire in dry grassy fuels, which are typically the most ignitable fuel across many landscapes. I really look forward to working with the Zenova team in the future, to conduct trials on multiple vegetation substrates, both in the laboratory and during real landscape scale wildfire settings.”
