In August 2024, Healx, a Cambridge-based AI-driven biotech firm specializing in rare diseases, secured $47 million in a Series C funding round. This round was co-led by R42 Group and Atomico, with participation from investors such as Balderton, Jonathan Milner, Global Brain, btov, Ayana Capital, o2h, and VU Venture Partners.
The capital injection aims to advance Healx’s pipeline, notably progressing HLX-1502 into a Phase 2 clinical trial for neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1). The U.S. FDA has cleared the investigational new drug application for HLX-1502, with the Phase 2 trial expected to commence by the end of 2024.
Co-founded by Dr. David Brown, co-inventor of Viagra, and CEO Dr. Tim Guilliams, Healx integrates generative AI technology with drug discovery expertise to expedite treatments for rare diseases. The company has raised approximately $110 million to date.
As part of the funding round, Dr. Ronjon Nag, founder of R42 Group and a 2024 Silicon Valley Hall of Fame AI inductee, joined Healx’s board.
