Another large salad producing greenhouse near Norwich closed last year. As soon as gas prices drop, these facilities will be reopened. They are simply too valuable to abandon. Each one produces a staggeringly large percentage of UK tomato consumption when cropping. The CO2 would be used to raise the atmospheric CO2 under the glass, not power it. Biomass boilers would be effective in terms of growing, supplying heat, waste hot water (more heat) and CO2 into the structures but the supply of the fuel needs to be scrutinised carefully. Theoretically, a biomass Eqtec plant would work very well in partnership with a large glasshouse, again supplying the same as a biomass boiler with only a biochar "waste" to sell on.
