First time I met a chemical engineer where I work, a Doctor of whatever, I noticed he was missing half of one of his front teeth. I later discovered he'd broken it trying to remove a rawl plug by biting it. A very clever guy but also dumb as hell. Hopefully that story will put the SP in to the 40's next week.

One of DV's subsidiaries is STOER, produces cosmetics. I'd like to think they have the capability of producing products containing the ingredients that are most in demand, recognised once the AI data is gathered . That would possible be more lucrative than the analysis itself.

Covid data show sewage monitoring could be vital in infection control
A pilot study’s analysis of schools’ wastewater shows its potential as an early warning system for public health teams

However, because wastewater seems to provide earlier signs of Covid infection, public health officials believe it is better and cheaper than relying on PCR or lateral flow testing.

Maggie Rae, the president of the Faculty of Public Health, said having an effective early warning system in place was vital for preventing further outbreaks. “Test and trace is not cost effective and it’s not an early warning system,” Rae said. “Testing doesn’t tell us how many people have got the virus, just those who have come forward for a test,” she added.

“Wastewater could give you a very very good sense of unknown infections that you can then track.”

Local authority public health teams could potentially identify an area where Covid may be about to break out, and go door-to-door offering advice, support and testing equipment, she said.

Covid-19: Sewage testing for virus spikes extended in NI

Plans are being developed to increase sewage wastewater testing to identify coronavirus spikes in Northern Ireland.

Scientists established last year that the virus's genetic material could be identified in human waste.

Testing is currently being carried out on samples from wastewater sites at Ballynacor (Craigavon) and Dunmurry.

That will be scaled up to help develop a Covid-19 early warning system under Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (Daera) plans.

Under the plans, a number of additional sites will be added between April and June, with further sites covering all of NI's population added in the second half of 2021.

It is hoped the expansion will allow for the long-term development of a wastewater surveillance programme that can quickly detect local Covid-19 outbreaks and help identify new variants of the virus.

Agriculture and Environment Minister Gordon Lyons said testing to date has "already yielded successful results and will now be scaled up with further sites being monitored in the coming months".

Testing also allows for virus detection even when there are only asymptomatic Covid-19 cases in the community.

Daera has committed £400,000 to the project - a collaboration between Queens University Belfast, the Regional Virology Laboratory and the Public Health Agency (PHA).

Minister Lyons added: "We need to use every possible weapon we have to fight Covid-19, quickly identify where outbreaks are occurring and stop the spread.

"Wastewater sampling can help us keep a watchful eye on levels of the SARS-Cov-2 virus in the community and allow health teams to take early actions".

'Important role'
The PHA and Stormont's Department of Health said wastewater surveillance will form an important part of the virus' management long term.

Health Minister Robin Swann said it will "become an important element of continuing arrangements to monitor and track virus activity".

He added: "Importantly, wastewater surveillance can help detect the SARS-Cov-2 virus in both symptomatic and asymptomatic populations and as such will have an important role in helping to monitor overall viral activity and to identify any new variants that may emerge".

Sewage testing could also be used in the long term to identify a number of other pathogens including norovirus, and both hepatitis A and E.

Mentions the 5 minute Exhalation Technology Covid breathalyser in development. It's still in study stage and if compared with the recent breath test requirements set by the UK gov looks very poor. Exhalation Technology Ltd in Cambridge has announced a large clinical study for its CoronaCheck breath test for Covid-19. The point-of-care rapid antigen test provides results in five minutes and has reported very high sensitivity and specificity thus far. The device was developed based on the company’s existing test, the Inflammacheck, which detects well-documented biomarkers for inflammatory conditions in the airways system

What is the evidence of mouthwash with CPC Technology reducing the amount of coronavirus?
Unilever worked with leading laboratories to carry out tests to see if mouthwash with CPC Technology might reduce the viral load of coronavirus. The research was done independently, in a controlled laboratory environment.

The results show that after 30 seconds of rinsing, the mouthwash formulation containing CPC Technology was effective in reducing the amount of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus by 99.9% . 30 seconds is the recommended usage of mouthwash, and the tests reflected this contact time.
