It seems to me that Horizonte is at it again.

The shareholder update is dated 26th. February 2021 despite the fact that, under AIM Rules, they only need to update every 6 months which, given the previous update, 30th. September 2020 means another one was not due until 30th. March 2021.

The recent fund raise was for approximately £18m at 7.5p which gives approximately 240m new shares. The shareholder update now states we have 1,612,095,640 shares in issue which is an increase of 165,718,353 shares on the previous total not the full 240m. We also know, from the 9th March RNS that the Canadian side of the fund raise resulted in an additional 88,060,100 shares being issued.

The Canadian side of the fund raise was concluded, and shares issued on 09/03/2021 but they don’t appear of the shareholder totals update because Horizonte decided to update the figures over one month earlier than required by AIM rules. I wonder who these shares have gone to and why Horizonte saw fit to exclude them from the latest shareholder update?

European Nickel, that's a blast from the past. Caldag in Turkey if memory serves me correctly. They were planning to heap leaching laterites but gave up over some permit being constantly delayed. Sold for a song if I remember right. I got stung on that one as well but it was more to do with the difficulty og doing anything in Turkey than anything else.

Interestingly some of the main players at European Nickel are now at Brazilian Nickel and they're still pushing heap leaching.

That's the issue. It's a problem going forward not a problem now which is what the original article posted by Luke2 was saying.

Once the Tsingshan kerfuffle dies down and it becomes apparent that what they propose is not going to impact the supply of "clean" nickel I expect nickel's upward price trajectory to continue. What then happens once the actual supply crunch does kick in is anybodies guess.

Also, you're right about Tesla supplying LFP model 3's to Europe. They mentioned late last year that they would be doing that but things seem to have gone very quiet on that front. Are they still sending LFP model 3's to Europe do you know?

Agreed. With current manufacturing capacity all of the big battery makers are struggling to keep up with demand for battery cells. Once a lot of these new battery manufacturing facilities come on line the squeeze will move from there not being enough production capacity to there not being enough raw material to feed the increased production capability. That will happen but it's not quite there just yet.

Really!

Tesla using LFP in some of their cars, in particular China, is driven by cost not availability of nickel. The lower range isn't so much of an issue in China whereas range in Europe still is. That's despite the fact that the average daily commute in the UK is in the region of 20 miles both ways.

The stock of class 1 nickel in LME and Shanghai warehouses at the moment is almost twice the amount EVs are expected to us in batteries in 2021. There will be a problem with supply keeping up with demand going forward but at the moment there is no shortage.

Assuming all the points you highlight are in fact on the money don't you think it strange that, at the stage we are at, there are still so many unknowns? The fact that they haven't buttoned down some of these issues given that we are supposed to be on the verge of submitting the TEO is odd. The only thing that makes sense to me is they're reassessing the UG/OP split. I also have a feeling they view the TS option as a last resort and one they'd like to avoid at all costs.

As for the respective Russian, Western systems it seems to me that one is likely to be of more use when negotiating a sale the other for a JV or the go it alone option (which isn't really an option because they're never going to go it alone). I suspect some of what is being done right now is more to do with giving off the appearance rather than having any real intention but that's just a guess. Let's face it a buyer is going to be Russian. In the event they JV (if you believe the NRR story) that could be with anybody. I think the JV option unlikely.

The RF wants this project to proceed so I can't see the road and power plant land allotments being a problem. Having said that nothing in Russia happens quickly but these issues still need to be resolved. Plenty of time to get these agreed between TEO approval and the BFS being completed possibly?

Rosy Lee has suggested the nickel price needs to be higher before KM becomes a goer. Vertigo suggested sometime ago (as has Rosy Lee I believe) that Robin Young hasn't being entirely honest on the project's prospects/potential. I've said this before but I think RY has been playing for time. When you consider all the unforced delays and missed deadlines that's the only explanation that makes sense.

The play for time scenario looks like it might need another couple of years to do us the favour I suspect we need.

Also, I think this whole Tsingshan move is nothing more than an elaborate spoiler designed to delay the opposition. Tsingshan has made some very heavy investments in HPAL in Indonesia that haven't gone according to plan. HPAL projects have a habit of taking longer and costing more than expected. I think its this that's prompted them to release the NPI to matte story. We shall see soon enough if there's any substance behind the proposal.

As for vast swathes of tropical rain forest being felled to accommodate solar panels, really?

The TEO involves

yet the article you quote states

"Ongoing work continues on the compilation of the TEO and we have further identified that underground production may be a viable and better financial option as previously defined by RPM in previous study work,”


In other words they're still trying to optimise the project.

After all this time they still don't know what their best open pit and/or underground combination is. Why is that? The only reasonable conclusion you can draw for their prevarication is the project isn't fiancially attractive enough at current nickel prices to attract mainstream funding.

You should read the RNSs especially the 25th. November 2020 and 16th. February 2021 ones if you want to get a good understanding of how we've arrived at our current position.

I think this is what some people are relying on, 4th. paragraph, RNS dated 25th. November 2020.

"Once complete, the final draft of the report will be submitted to the Company for review and finalisation. However, due to remote nature of the compilation of this report, the extensive amount of required hard copy documentation is progressing, though not as rapid as originally scheduled and is now expected to be completed in Q1 21."

All that this says is they expect to have a draft completed for review by the company in Q1 21. The significant bits are "submitted to the Company for review and finalisation" and "expected".

I think it safe to assume that the TEO will not be submitted before the end of Q1 21 since the company has not made any commitment to do so.
