Ghana’s first oil and gas exploration licensing round which started in October last year is nearing conclusion as the country’s Ministry of Energy on Thursday published the final bidders’ list for the available oil blocks.
The Ministry in a circular signed by the Minister responsible for Petroleum, John Peter Amewu that has the list of participating bidders showed Tullow and ENI/Vitol bidding for Block 3 while First E&P for Block 2.
“Now, therefore, I, Hon. John Peter Amewu, Minister responsible for Petroleum do give notice to the participating bidders as specified in the Schedule for 2018/2019 Petroleum Licensing Rounds bidders for exploration and production rights within the territory of Ghana.
The final bidders’ list which has only three companies competing for the available oil blocks emerged from the 14 companies that made it to the pre-qualification stage out of the 16 companies that originally applied for the oil blocks.
Ghana’s President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo launched the country’s first oil and gas exploration licensing round in October. Blocks 2, 3 and 4 were open for bidding, while deepwater blocks 5 and 6 were said to be allocated through direct negotiations.

Ghana is a world hot spot for oil development. Petrel holds a 30% interest in a licence agreement over a very prospective onshore/offshore block. The 1,532 km2 Tano 2A Block is held by a private Ghanaian company, owned 60% by Clontarf Energy, 30% by Petrel, and 10% by local Ghanaian interests.
Pan Andean and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) executed a valid agreement in 2008 in respect of exploration of the Tano 2A area;
A revised Petroleum Agreement was signed between the parties and the Ghana National Petroleum Company (GNPC) in March 2010;
Pan Andean, following protracted negotiations with the GNPC instituted a suit in March 2014 seeking for the reliefs thereon;
Based on the good faith shown by the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum to amicably settle the matter out of court, Pan Andean moved to discontinue the matter in July 2014;
The amended area for exploration and production rights for the Tano 2A Petroleum Agreement for the block are set out as below. We now await the Ministry to implement the agreed settlement and process the same expeditiously.
We await parliamentary ratification.

the grades at ARCM have been well above average for Zambia and close to DRC which figures as were fairly close to DRC

The average mineral grade of copper in the DRC is also fairly high, making it a mining destination of choice for many investors. Most copper mines in the DRC are estimated to have an average ore grade of over three percent, far higher than the global average of between 0.6% and 0.8%. For example, the Tenke Fungurume copper mine – the biggest mine in the DRC in 2016 – has an average ore grade of 2.6% as compared to a global average of 0.8%.

the results from holes 2-5 have shown excellent grades approaching DRC grades which if continues will attract a major partner without doubt.

Black Sap

1. looking at holes 4-7 the appear fairly evenly spaced 200m or so NE to SW.Will that continue on that plane or will holes 8 and 9 move to other regions such as the area in the geochem further south west that looks to have higher ppm
2. What is the black saprolite and Tea noir that John Meyer refereed to in the DRC I was a little confused. Also it was stated sulphides had been detected at deeper zones is that a good thing?

A pity some stupid rumour about Optiva doing a raise for us which is absolutely NOT the case. We are good for a number of months. We will continue the c 200m lines both west to east and going further south. Black saprolite is indicative of mineralisation (but not guaranteed) so that’s good. Sulphides are good in that they often provide the scale (albeit often at lower grades than oxides).

Really hoping 6 and 7 continue or improve.
