...let's not forget about the rest! The following data (2018) is from the US only but does provide interesting reading. Ford, Toyota and Chrysler had sales of over 6.5 million vehicles but only 75,000 EV's compared to Tesla's total of 197,000 (all EV's). So the big boys have a long way to go but does anyone think they won't get there? For example VW announced in December 2021 that they would be spending $100 Billion over the next five on EV's and other technologies. By the end of 2026, VW expects that 25% of the vehicles it sells globally will be electric. Currently, electric vehicles account for 5% to 6% of VW sales.
Volkswagen is also planning to create a separate battery manufacturing company. The battery business is expected to generate up to €30 billion in revenue which is more than the company's Skoda passenger car division currently generates, according to VW.
