Thanks for posting RonR. Some details from the post:
‘GBN launched a competitive process in April 2023 to select the appropriate Small Modular Reactor technologies with the intention of final selection later in 2024 to take two SMR projects to a Final Investment Decision by 2029.’
Not sure if 2 SMR projects means companies selected or sites. If sites then it worth noting that a site can potentially have more than one SMR.
I totally agree with supporting UK plc and believe RR SMR will win multiple contracts but, given SMR technology is still unproven, I expect another bidder to win at least one contract.
With something so important as energy security, the government would be criticised for only picking one backer. What if they couldn’t deliver it or cope with the demand required?
Despite the RR sp today, the IAG results are good. North Atlantic and Latin American markets now back at pre-pandemic levels driven largely by the leisure market.
Jan - March result smashed the analysts forecast.
Business travel taking longer to recover. Will it ever? zoom, teams etc!
More good news for a positive result on 11th May...
tars - many thanks for all your informative SMR posts.
I personally can envisage a future where mini nuclear reactors, along with wind & solar, power the planet and have helped stop the impending end of the planet through climate disasters.
More short term it's incredibly frustrating how slow the government is but I'm confident that at least one site will be approved for a RR SMR. Energy security strategy means Britain having control over it's energy and ensuring that the energy source is safe. RR have nuclear experience and are British so are very likely to be awarded a contract, despite all the competition. Fingers crossed it happens sooner rather than later.
In the meantime lots of planes are flying.
Exactly Fitzy - gov't would get a lot of grief if didn't open to tender and RR would be able to charge what it wanted.
However, RR have a lot of history with nuclear and it's British so chances are high it's picked initially over a newly formed GB company or overseas supply.
I believe it is at the test facility. Due to be put in commercial airplanes (possibly narrow as well as wide body aircraft) in the 2030's.

Was Nettles on the strong stuff last night? Glad your purchase of more shares went through.
JTT - I admire your steadfast conviction to £7 by Feb 2025. Whatever happens it's a great company, with quality products in multiple sectors. Maybe a Tesla type win only happens once in a lifetime but here's hoping you achieve another.
No idea what's causing today's drop but I'm sure there is a bit of nervousness in Europe's airspace at the moment.

The good news, if WW3 doesn't break out, is that RR service RAF Typhoon engines.
Didn't think of selling but did grab a few more at 144.15p yesterday.
It sounds like RR will be mentioned a lot in the news this week re AUKUS and a possible update of the governments energy security strategy. May help it stay blue when many are in the red due to the banking concerns
Thanks for posting Svend. Interesting reading:
"In a big upgrade, it almost doubled its price target for Rolls stock to 200p from 105p previously. Its ‘downside scenario’ is 90p and its ‘upside’ fair value 300p."
Note of caution though as out of 17 'expert' forecasts the consensus price is 124p!!
Still onwards and upwards we go.
Multiple target forecast changes from the 'experts':
SocGen raises Rolls-Royce price target to 148 pence - 'hold'
Bank of America raises Rolls-Royce to 'buy' (underperform) - price target 175 (97) pence
Jefferies raises Rolls-Royce price target to 170 (125) pence - 'buy'

Sounds positive to me, hopefully the big investors/pensions etc will jump on board soon
