I would expect the minister of culture to have some support for the Sami - it now depends on how much weight the Gov't will give the the new minister's thoughts compared to the Ministry of enterprise/industry. I am expecting there to be some sort of compromise - as Kurt has always offered...let's just the application out of the drawer!

I could be wrong (I will defer to Andy here) but I think the application is dealt with by 4 people before it goes to the Gov't meeting - these are Byalan, Nilsson, Eneroth, Ygerman who are all social democrats.

previously the Soc Dems, greens had 136 seats and needed support of left (who, frankly are as bad as the Greens for us) - now the Soc dems and greens have 116 - and they are held up by liberals and centre party. Whoever the ministers are, the government is vulnerable to criticism from the Right and know it. Basically they can't carry on taking the p*ss.....

we all know that the shareholders in Sweden are about as calm as a three year old on a diet of sugar and speed - but so far it's holding up - nothing unexpected today. We were told the process would be halted until the election - election over - we ought to get a decision in next couple of months. Pressure from LKAB (they're not looking at kallak? don't make me laugh) should help us in that regard.

also - things HAVE changed. They are now a minority government - we all know what that means - they can't just sit on applications anymore. The government can be brought down any day if the Liberals or Annie doesn't like what she sees.

The licence is not a political decision - doesn't go on votes - the law is clear about what is relevant - doesn't matter whether a minister doesn't like it - the courts will need clear evidence that the mine cannot coexist with reindeer - so far there is little evidence of that. just make a decision so we can get somebody competent to look at it ie the courts..
