Aim-listed Kefi Gold and Copper has announced that it requires $356-million in funding to develop the Tulu Kapi gold project, in Ethiopia, and that the majority of principal approvals from the funding syndicate have been obtained.

This amount will suffice to fund all infrastructure, the start-up of the openpit mine and initial development of an underground mine.

The company expects to close financing in October and in such a manner that it will retain 70% of the project’s operating company – Tulu Kapi Gold Mines Share Company.

Kefi has focused on minimised ownership dilution by maximising subsidiary-level finance, and arranging for Kefi-subsidiary-level financing with conversion rights into Kefi shares to be based on the volume-weighted average price at the time of production – which the company believes will be materially higher than at current levels – if not repaid beforehand.
The company has already started with offsite works related to roads and power, as well as principal on-site contractors.
If all proceeds to plan, the Tulu Kapi project should start producing gold in mid-2023.

An encouraging case is emerging for a potential +30,000 oz gold heap-leach open-cut operation of oxide material whilst the main Hawiah Project is being developed. This scenario of mining and leaching near-surface gold mineralisation will be evaluated in parallel with the updated MRE.

KEFI Gold & Copper PLC said Monday that it has assembled a $356 million funding package for its Tulu Kapi gold project in Ethiopia.

The company said that the package will include funding from government and non-government local organizations. So far the company has received advanced conditional approvals for 63% of the money. The package will cover all infrastructure, the start-up of the open pit mine and the initial development of the underground mine.

The London-listed miner expects financial completion and to launch full project development in October.

KEFI noted that it will retain an ownership of around 70% in the project, which would yield a net present value of $376 million at current prices.

"It has taken a great deal of work by all involved, to rigorously ensure Ethiopia's first major mining project for 30 years is designed, financed and operated to the highest standards socially, environmentally and operationally," Executive Chairman Harry Anagnostaras-Adams said.

The plan will increase export with more effective economic options and experience. Also, creating a job opportunity that can make enough income for our youth is our main goal. All of these activities will be related to the national economic development program.
We have started to replace our imported mineral products and now we have changed to metal products. The research committee has completed today and the study that shows the amount of resources we have. Next time we will cross to the company. Next we will move to other products research.
The other main thing we have in the hunting sector is to do the lack of professional skills. We are working together with universities found in our country. The education center that we established in Addis Ababa University is the main victim of mining education and also in Asosa University. It is possible to create Ethiopian professionals who were coming from abroad to cut and fix the institution of the need to be established only to cut and fix.
These experiences will be held in various areas of our country and universities based on the skills we will open according to their skills.
