@Damienmoore, you obviously don't believe the narrative about the timing of dividend receipts being delayed until the second half?
I disagree with you about option income. The great Warren Buffett uses option selling as part of his investment strategy. It was when reading his biography some years ago that I read how profitable it could be. I made some decent money from both naked and covered option selling before settling into investing for dividends when I retired.
I can understand why HFEL would want to enhance income when they own a company that they don't want to sell but realise that there might be volatility in the future. Selling call options at a high enough strike price will normally ensure they are not called and the whole income can be banked as profit. If it goes the other way, it is a simple matter to exit the position, even at a loss. I am sure if I, as a complete novice, could make money at it, the professional Investment Managers looking after our investments can navigate a profit for us. The fact that they use options to boost income was one of the factors that made me invest in the first place.
Selling BSIF for a small profit, I exchanged a prospective dividend based on my original investment of about 8.5% to a prospective 12% in HFEL. I am not prone to "trading" my investments but I do like to rotate realised profits into higher yielding stocks. Once invested, the share price becomes largely irrelevant as long as the dividends keep coming and, in the case of HFEL, increasing year on year.
