You still wouldn't be able to tell if it was a buy or sell on mid point if for example it was a big limit order being worked through the day. A big seller would know they may have to accept a slightly lower price to get rid of a large chunk if they needed the money or just wanted out. The MM's would manipulate the SP around to get it filled either way.
Fact is all the myths surrounding the SP, mid points, buys, sells, dark pools, off the books etc the only people that really know what it is are the investors buying/selling and the people facilitating the trade. How many times on AIm have you seen folk say that my buy was reported as a sell, or vice versa? Well I have seen it literally thousands of times. That tells you all you need to know about trade reporting on AIM.
How the SP moves on AIM is also a mystery only known to a chosen few. It can move accurately on what seems buys or sells or just as easily move 10-15%, either way, on very little volume for no apparent reason. That is when folk start yelling why is it going down for no reason. Well the reason is the MM's want it that way for whatever greedy reason they have in their minds possibly they want shares or they want buyers. Or simply to stimulate a static market.
MM's are effectively the Gods and the rest mere mortals who follow their desires.......
