After these comments from the FCA. It appears that the real battle is the FCA trying to defend itself from the rules they set. They are the regulatory body for overseeing and enforcing financial conduct rules. So it appears the FCA were lacking in the enforcement of the said rules.

I can't see the FCA and the Financial Ombudsman ever disagreeing, they are virtually the same organisation, this has gone too far.

As for the wider implications regarding other types of loans. Either they stumble across some obscure rules to mitigate them or there's going to be an almighty 💩 show.

Either way this needs resolving in the event the judgement goes against the lenders, before any redress payments are made.

Hopes of a pre-Christmas interest rate cut have all but been extinguished amid fears that Labour's tax-and-spend Budget will push up prices. Traders reckon there is a one-in-eight chance the Bank of England will trim the cost of borrowing, now at 4.75 per cent, when rate-setters meet this week. The Bank fears the £25 billion rise in employers' National Insurance contributions will be passed to customers, fuelling inflation, which is already back above its 2 per cent target. Its stance is at odds with that of its US and European counterparts, who are cutting rates faster and harder.
