Well Japan might be eleventh on that list Mick, but out of 50, number 11 makes it one of the largest in my book.

Update from Rishi Sunak It is expected that the chancellor of the exchequer will extend the furlough initiative, which is currently supporting six million workers, until September, though the Treasury will only provide 60% of benched workers’ wages.

I know of several companies that are only keeping employees on the books until this comes to an end.
Some even gave them notice but when this scheme was announced took them back on to collect their 80% wages.
When this does end, that's when the reality will start with rising unemployment and all the knock on effects.

Regarding all this easing the lockdown. Clearly the government and companies cannot sustain or afford to prolong this any longer than necessary. But what has changed?
There's no vaccine, no medication and no alternative or effective treatment being administered since day one, so nothing has changed.
We have to learn to live with this somehow.
Any major changes and this virus will quickly resurrect itself and faster than before as it will be starting from a higher base point than when it first took hold.
To this end I cannot see a so called 'V' shape recovery anytime soon, even if we do have a staged return. It will take 'forever' to return to some sort of normality.
If a 100% successful vaccine was available now, how long would it be before everyone was administered with it.
With the markets trying their best lately to shrug this off, no amount of "trying to live with it" can sustain these levels for very long.
Although too heavily exposed I'm fortunate to have more in cash and expect to come through this on the plus side.

But for the country we have plenty to look forward to. At last, we are going to be striking out on our own next year without supporting half of Europe dragging us back. Finally we will be free and in charge of our own destiny.
