Defence Holdings (ALRT) – Bullish View
Defence Holdings is an early-stage but interesting defence tech play that has fully pivoted into sovereign AI and defence software, aligning itself neatly with UK and NATO strategic priorities (AI, autonomy, secure systems).
The pivot is important: non-core assets have been sold, costs cut, and the company is now focused purely on defence technology, which is exactly where government spending is heading. “Sovereign” AI is a key theme — governments increasingly want systems they control, not black-box tech from foreign hyperscalers.
Yes, revenues are currently small, but this looks like a build-first, sell-later model typical of defence tech. If even one meaningful MOD or allied contract drops, the valuation could rerate quickly from microcap levels.
What I like:
Strong macro tailwinds: defence + AI + geopolitics
Positioned at the intersection of software and defence, not heavy manufacturing
Leaner balance sheet post-pivot
Optionality is high — contracts, partnerships, or defence primes taking an interest could all be catalysts
This is not a widows-and-orphans stock, but for a speculative sleeve of a portfolio it offers asymmetric upside. You’re paying for potential before contracts are fully visible — which is usually where the biggest moves happen.
Bottom line:
High risk, yes — but also high reward if execution lands. One to watch closely as defence budgets turn into actual contract awards.
