The change from in house manufacturing started big style in the nineties. I was heavily involved.
We couldn’t compete with GE and Prat’s as they were much more competitive.
Our cost base was huge.
It was only by finding global suppliers and contacts etc that we managed to sell engines by reducing in house costs.

We had no choice. Design build and test was the way we survived. We always kept specialist manufacture where we needed to .....

As an ex employee for many years my view is it’s ok having a recruitment drive but lots of skilled guys and managers are leaving in droves. My son is a senior manager at RR and not had a pay rise or bonus for three years and met all of his targets. Came in as graduate years ago and promoted on results.
He has managers leaving and cannot offer them a bean. Can’t get much worse .....

I have visited them and let’s just say it’s a different supply base with different products .....

Cobham is a supplier to RR......
