Breaking News. More redundancies anticipated at Asos23 Jul 2020 15:33
Asos is consulting with more staff at its customer care centre in Leavesden over proposed job cuts as part of its ongoing restructuring, Drapers can reveal.
Around 500 day shift roles at the centre, which is near Watford in Hertfordshire, were put into consultation yesterday.
As it is still at the proposal stage, the final redundancy numbers are unknown at present. Asos is hoping to reduce the numbers by finding alternative roles within the organisation for those at risk. The consultation will run over the next few weeks.
It comes after 100 night shift roles at the same centre in Leavesden were axed in March. The night shifts have since been outsourced to a third party.
Around 100 Asos employees were made redundant last October, across a mix of disciplines including technology, sustainability and ethics, design, merchandising and sourcing.
The redundancies are all part of an ongoing business efficiency programme Asos announced in October 2019, the primary driver of which is to better serve its increasing number of international customers who need support in different time zones.
In 2018, Asos employed 4,386 people, according to its annual report.
