RE: New Offer23 Nov 2022 13:33
Pretty shocked they did not accept the deal or at least ballot the members.
I read the post from @Keith666 and it sounded like a reasonable deal given the current climate, and I was about to re-purchase some shares, then I read that Reuters asked the CWU to comment on the latest offer and they declined to do so, which led me to believe they would be declining it.
Reading between the lines not backdating the pay-deal will be a huge sticking point as 9 % now is pretty much the same as 7 % two, three months ago and the wording said up to 9 %, leaving out any details of the many strings which would have been attached to maximising the full 9 %.
This will get ugly now, not just for the company and union, but for the workers, because I cannot see how those who are on a circa £25,000 salary will not cross or be forced to cross the picket line in light of the current cost of living crisis, unless they are mortgage free and are a two income family, how can they afford to strike, especially if they have kids.
But as some of the workers say, if their terms and conditions are being destroyed then they cannot afford to strike.
The strikes will likely get a lot of press this week with so many sectors going on strike this week.
