2023 is an important year across General Motors as we advance our EV, AV and software strategies. The investments we’ve made since outlining our plans for our all-electric, technology-driven future have laid a solid foundation – and now we are in execution and scaling mode.
Our team was especially busy in May, and I want to share a few recent milestones that illustrate our progress:
We have strategically aligned our leadership and business to support our transformation and growth.
GM’s leadership team combines decades of experience in designing and building high-quality vehicles that customers love, with expertise on software, customer experience and digital trends from the world’s largest technology companies. This month we welcomed Michael Abbott as our head of software and announced the promotion of Rory Harvey to executive vice president and president of North America.
Mike will lead a new, integrated end-to-end software organization focused on developing vehicle and enterprise software technologies and solutions, and delivering digital services and features to retail and commercial customers. Our intense focus on software provides a new level of innovation and customer experience – from today’s industry-leading hands-free Super Cruise technology, to scaling the Ultifi platform and enabling customers to personalize and update their driving, charging and ownership experience over time.
Rory brings a customer-first approach to our North American auto business, following Steve Carlisle’s retirement after 41 incredible years with GM. Cadillac was our first brand to announce it would go all-electric, and under Rory's leadership since 2020, the brand has launched the ultra-luxury Cadillac CELESTIQ and the gorgeous Cadillac LYRIQ, with more to come. He will accelerate our momentum thanks to our strong brands, dealers and customer loyalty.
Finally, bringing everybody in on the all-electric future includes supporting our fleet and commercial customers in the transition. Our recent launch of GM Envolve leverages the full power and assets of General Motors to understand and solve for their unique business needs, whether it’s EVs or energy storage, to provide seamless solutions that put them at the center of everything we do.
Our investment in the Ultium Platform continues to pay off.
Our Ultium battery platform is the heart of our EV lineup. Ultium enables tremendous performance, flexibility and scale, offering our customers a range of exciting EVs across brands, price points and segments.
