PC World - Who actually buys PC's anymore?
Carphone Warehouse - Who actually has a car phone anymore?
To blame the mobile market changing in the lasst 12 months is a poor excuse, this company hasn't changed since the 90s. Hats off to Charles Dunstone he saw the writing on the wall and sold Dixons a pig.
The mobile operators are about as loyal to DSG/CPW as they are to every other exisiting customer under a mobile contract.
This is like watching death by a thousand cuts. They need to be bold and make some serious tough choices to survive even the next 5 years. 5G & new handsets might be a lifeline to give this company it's last throw of the dice but it has to evolve imho

We have almost 1,300 UK stores... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/retailandconsumer/11269523/Autumn-Statement-Help-for-High-Street-shopping-in-fight-with-online-retailers.html George Osborne is to offer the high street a lifeline in its battle against online retailers as he pledges to overhaul business rates. Any changes to the 400-year-old business rates system raise the prospect of prices in the shops falling as firms face less punishing charges. Business rates, which date back to 1601, are currently calculated according to the rental value of the property a company uses. Experts have warned that the system unfairly punishes high street firms with large properties and unfairly benefits online retailers who only need small premises.

Carphone, Phones 4U it only takes Best Buy to sniff an opportunity.... It feels great to be courted by other companies that see the benefits of a tie up with DXNS. Can only put us in a stronger negotiating position when looking at all the offers. The time extension is not only an opportunity to work with CPW on a merger but also for others to bring some tempting offers to the table also. Either way I have faith that Seb will work the best deal for shareholders imho this is the great news for us. I still think a CPW merger is best but who knows what tempting offers others will bring !!

http://www.thelawyer.com/news/practice-areas/corporate-news/linklaters-osborne-clarke-lead-on-35bn-carphone-warehouse-and-dixons-merger/3016862.article Linklaters and Osborne Clarke are thought to be advising on a potential merger between Carphone Warehouse and electrical retail chain Dixons. Dixons has instructed its longstanding adviser Linklaters to advise on the deal. Corporate partner Aedamar Comiskey is leading on the transaction, assisted by corporate managing associate Dominic Kendal-Ward. It is understood that Carphone Warehouse has dealt with the bulk of legal work related to the deal itself, led by company secretary and general counsel Tim Morris. However, it is thought the company has also turned to regular adviser Osborne Clarke for additional advice. The firm declined to comment. Reports that the the two companies were in talks to secure a merger of equals broke on Monday (24 February). A combined business would have a market cap of more than £3.4bn and 2,900 shops in Europe. It would also likely secure a spot in the FTSE 100. The boards of Carphone Warehouse and Dixons confirmed the merger speculation was correct earlier this week, noting that the talks are still at a “very preliminary” stage. The Takeover Panel requires the companies to announce whether they intend to make an offer by 24 March.
