Honda has unveiled its next-gen fuel cell module at the 23rd International Hydrogen & Fuel Cell Expo in Tokyo.

The new module costs 50% less to produce, lasts

twice as long, and needs less maintenance. It's also three times more power-dense, making it compact (28.7" × 27.5" × 22.8") аnd Ііghtwеіght (550 |l|Ьs) fоreasy installation.

With 59.8% efficiency and 450-850v output, it operates in extreme temperatures (-30°C to 60°C) and at altitudes up to 3,500 m. Honda will equip 300 CR-Vs with this fuel cell for California.

Toyota claims the new fuel cell offers 20% more

range and will also be used in heavy-duty commercial vehicles.

Clean Hydrogen Partnership launches €184.5m call for proposal to boost European supply chain

The Clean Hydrogen Partnership has launched its 2025 Call for Proposals under the Horizon Europe programme, with a budget of €184.5m ($190m).

Entering its technology upscaling phase, the partnership will fund projects to achieve cost-effective green hydrogen production, develop hydrogen storage solutions or deliver reliable and scalable fuel cell systems for heavy-duty vehicles and maritime applications.

Up to €80m will be allocated to the Hydrogen Valleys initiative; €40m ($41.2m) for renewable hydrogen production; €16m ($16.4m) for hydrogen storage and distribution; €17m ($17.5m) for transport applications; €5m ($5.2m) for heat and power; and €6.5m ($6.7m) for cross-cutting activities.

Applications are to be submitted via the EU’s Funding and Tenders portal by April 23, 2025.

Commenting on the 2025 budget, Valerie Bouillon-Delporte, Executive Director of the Clean Hydrogen Partnership said, “The 2025 call reflects our continued efforts to invest in research and innovation for a competitive clean hydrogen value chain in Europe.

“We are looking at expanding hydrogen’s applications in key sectors, enhancing fuel cell technologies and hydrogen electrolysis efficiency, while tackling major market challenges, such as reducing hydrogen’s production costs, improving material durability and safety, and strengthening Europe’s hydrogen infrastructure.”

The Executive Director added that the hydrogen valleys will again be an important part of the call, after allocating €29m ($31.5m) to it last year.

Both infrastructure and renewable energy offer investors potential for income and growth,” says Emma Wall, head of platform investments at Hargreaves Lansdown, adding that they also provide “good diversification to a portfolio that already owns stocks and bonds”.

Inflation and interest rates have proved headwinds for infrastructure. [but] the macro-environment is – slowly – changing,” says Wall.

Infrastructure investments and green energy are likely to be key priorities for the Labour government, with significant investment promised in October’s Budget.
