Following on from a successful first day at the Scottish Skipper Expo our team is all set to welcome attendees to our stand.
Don't forget to swing by Stand E14 to discuss your new build, repair, refit and in-service support requirements with our expert Commercial shipping team of David Burke, Andrew Hay and Stewart Crabb.
I am not sure what accounts as a successful first day. I still waiting to hear that a contract has come from any of these shows.
Just read this from Navy Lookout https://www.navylookout.com/diminishing-strength-of-the-royal-fleet-auxiliary-undermines-the-royal-navys-global-reach/ it does not make good reading. If Team Resolute can bring forward the in service date for FSS I suspect that the MoD will be pleased. This article also raises the question of whether additional RFA ships need to be ordered. I wonder what impact this would have on the ability of Cammell Laird to be awarded the new maintenance contract for the RFA ships that it currently has.
Just saw this job vacancy https://jobs.smartrecruiters.com/HarlandWolff/743999983401104-subcontract-manager what I found interesting is that it is apparently based in Appledore and under qualifications it states
Strong knowledge of the legal, import/ export and regulatory environments related to purchasing contracts and framework agreements within the defence sector (project specific).
Maintain knowledge and keep up to date with defence sector updates and supplier performance/ developments (project specific)
I have just received this email response to my email of earlier this morning I was no told I could not share it so I am.
The sessions yesterday were not information of the service, business or vessel but were a drop in for local businesses to meet our Media and PR team. Ie Advertising for localsโ businesses and what we could do to help draw more people to Scilly and to their businesses in the future.
The Atlantic Wolff is coming into Portsmouth today and there will be regular updates on how she gets on and when she will move down the coast towards Penzance.
Kind regards
Scilly Ferries Team
Just seen this article from the UK Defence Journal https://ukdefencejournal.org.uk/independence-rhetoric-risks-shipbuilding-in-scotland/ He gave an intersting answer to a question of work on Type 83 and Type 32 assuming that the Type 32 is ever approved.
During a sporadic look on the Scilly Ferries I saw this

ForrestGump ref 11.11 post whether he gets banned again is up to him. If I recall he has been banned for breach of rule 4 of the posting rules. If he does not want to be banned he needs to ensure he does not use insulting language.

Just read this article https://www.lexology.com/library/detail.aspx?g=6ad108d1-6380-4f13-bca0-f0da8658a4ca&utm_source=Lexology+Daily+Newsfeed&utm_medium=HTML+email&utm_campaign=Lexology+subscriber+daily+feed&utm_content=Lexology+Daily+Newsfeed+2024-05-09&utm_term= I do not believe that the MoD is currently looking at the use of MASS (see the article for the definition). This might be a possible revenue stream working with Artemis to produce autonomous vessels for the MoD.
Findingtheta ref 06.36 post I agree that the wait for financial results inJune and September can be made every year. However, to date there has not been a shot across the bows that I am aware of so an organised protest vote that gives a jolt at the AGM would serve as a warning. If after such a warning JW does not change and start to better articulate what is happening then next year I cannot see why a vote to remove should not be made.
This article refers to a change in the US with regards to changes to export rules relating to defence equipment. It may be of assistance if HARL ever needs to import equipment from the US. https://www.lexology.com/library/detail.aspx?g=163d397e-a58e-4985-838b-70bd9068c624&utm_source=Lexology+Daily+Newsfeed&utm_medium=HTML+email+-+Body+-+General+section&utm_campaign=Lexology+subscriber+daily+feed&utm_content=Lexology+Daily+Newsfeed+2024-05-09&utm_term=
I have reflected on all the posts on whether there should be changes to the senior management of HARL. I have come to the view that the most prudent course would be to wait until October and ame a decision then. If need be we can, if there is sufficient support to do so, requisition an EGM. My reasoning is that the 2023 FY accounts must be filed with AIM by 30 June which is about six weeks away. I know that it is technically possible for an exension to be granted but I am not sure that an extension can be granted for a reason not connected with the preparation of the accounts. This will tell us if losses have at least stabilised. Then by 30 September the 2024 interim results must be filed with AIM. These results shoul show if HARL is on course to meet 2024 revenue expectations. The difficulty with the interims is that in previous years income has been backloaded to H2 which makes coming to any conclusions on 2024 FY income problematical.
So by 1 October there will be information to see how HARL has performed this year. As things stand I should be able to attend the AGM this year and I have not decided whether to make a protest vote. It may be that a protest vote at the AGM on the reappointment of JW and AR would be better course of action. That way JW would be on notice that he needs to communicate more effectively with shareholders. Then if there is no change the quesion can be revisited next year.
Lottie123 ref 17.20 post So we could get a motion on the agenda but do we have suitable replacements as if you put the motion up and pass we want to make sure that four or five years later we are not in the same place. If I can lay devil's advocate for a moment. Why are we talking about replacing JW and/or AR is it the strategy or the execution of the strategy. We need clarity on that. I agree that the communication with shareholders is not good and needs to be improved. I also believe that execution of the strategy may not have always been optimal but I am of the view that removing JW and/or AR may not be wise at this stage. I would suggest waiting to see what the annual report and accounts says and if there is no comprehensive trading update at the same time revisit the issue.
If any attempt to make changes amongst Senior Executives we need to ensure that we have suitable replacements. It is worth noting that JW joined after a previous shareholder revolt. We need 5% of the shareholders by shares to put a motion on the agenda for the AGM. Do we have enough shares to get a motion onto the agenda for the AGM. Also I would caution against proposing a motion unless we are sure that the motion would pass and we have suitable replacements.

Xenor ref 12.03 post you make a fair point especially as both directors and the Person with Significant Control are all Spanish. That said as a legal matter Navantia UK is a separate legal person to the officers and as a result it does not derive its nationality from that of its officers. So as a matter of law it is a British company as it is registered at companies house in London. See this link https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/14100400
