This blog seems to be dominated by one or two people, focussed on Tesla and Lansdowne, rather than the qualities or otherwise of the investment trust itself; let's have some discussion on performance and fundamentals ie is it time to take some modest profits at around 650 (perhaps 10-15% of holdings), then buy in again at around 550? Trouble is it may never drop as far as 550 again.....finance experts such as Buffet and Slater suggest finding a good share and sticking with it for fear of missing out on good periods of growth. I think I would favour that- all depends whether you want to use some capital gains before April 5th, or indeed log some capital losses- not much chance of that with SMT!

Right I've had enough, chart and performance dreadful, did make a nice paper profit some months ago before the crash, have £2500 tied up in Burford, could do better elsewhere ie virtually any global investment trust; when I sell on Monday, I will lose £500, less than 1% of my portfolio, Scottish Mortgage and Mercantile, here I come again- can make up that in a few weeks. Then I don't have to worry about the Burford chart again- whoopee! It proves Warren Buffet's saying, don't buy if you don't understand the business! Good weekend everybody

Bought on strength of Telegraph Money article, Morningstar Silver rating with 4 stars, SP growth of 15% over 3 yrs, 2.6% over 1 year, and 10% over 3 months, 2.4% yield, reliable manager Neil Hermon, some big buys recently, invested in Bellway, Intermediate Cap, Renishaw, Burford, Paragon etc, good div growth over 5yrs- I like the look of it; will drip feed after my lump sum plunge. Prepared for dip over 4 months until Sept ie go away in May.......

Agree, SP doubled in 4 years, up 400p in 4 yrs, good business, and fundamentals solid ie steady dividend growth- have taken a few profits ie 10% tranches sold over the years, bought again at dips, what's not to like? Love to see their diggers on muddy building sites everywhere......

Why no posts and chat? Seems solid, bought at 750 3 yrs ago- boring solid business, 2.4% div yield, 48% div growth over 5 years. Probably not top of the league but no sleepless nights, up 300p over 3 yrs, not so good over 1 year- main investments are Black Rock, Diageo, Delta airlines, Unilever, BP and Lloyds, will hold and buy in dips.....

Was 359 exactly 2 yrs ago when I last bought, ie 46% rise- take a 2-3 yr viewpoint, a no brainer (sorry I hate that phrase)- have you bought in SaigonS?

Glad I held on at 265, not needing much Gaviscon now, perhaps buy at 390, or would that be too optimistic?. Seems a unique business....

2 yr high was 8000, probably hold perhaps buy again at 6500; are they making enough cleaning stuff ie floors, kitchens, toilets, bathrooms?- that's what they're good at or used to be. Directors were buying, seems a bit lukewarm now ie dividends. I thought this would be a long-term hold with basic business making bottles of cleaning gunk....?

Brilliant- I pass one at traffic lights every day at breakfast time on way to work, full of rather plump people buying sausage rolls- often a queue, Domino's pizza next door usually empty. Bought 280 shares at 1041 Aug 2018, wish I'd bought 560- is there a downside here? ie olympics, world cup, I guess Warren Buffet would say hang on in there.

Help!.........lost so much, will have to hang on, as ATG says, CEO buy at 335 is positive at least. You've got to have faith I guess, business fundamentals are good, but 30% loss over 3 months is like bad indigestion. I will not look at SP for 1 month, otherwise it's Gaviscon.....

I thought RB made household stuff that everyone needs and buys all the time ie low-tech, very disappointing slide since I bought at 68 in 2017- wondering whether to buy more to log loss and create possibility of medium term profit, or just sell and go away, perhaps buy Unilever....are fundamentals still good?

Excellent buying opportunity, can't understand why people are selling in a falling market (why do they do that??)- best to take a medium term view with this; agree with Red's analysis

Many of the posts are about Finsbury Food; this is the Finsbury Growth and Income Inv Trust page.....what is going on? Having said that, nothing since 2013. Shares doing ok, good chart and interesting portfolio- last bought at 580. Holding on, I think. Anyone else following?

Feeling a bit worried, mainly because I bought in at about 500 earlier this year and in 2017, tempted to top up at bottom (are we there yet?), but might watch for upturn and sell.......but will hang in, reassured by you guys re value, and fundamentals still seem good!
