Today, the UK government pledged £448m ($609m) to accelerate green maritime technology — a major step to slash emissions from shipping and cement Britain’s role as a clean energy superpower.

The funding, delivered through the UK SHORE programme, will support:

🔹 510 projects worldwide that are past FID, under construction, or already operational

📈 Since 2020, the global hydrogen sector has averaged 50% year-on-year growth in committed investment. In that same period, more than 1,700 projects have been announced — a 7.5x increase.

Big investment company’s pumping Blah blah blah there’s so many factors to consider, I would advise you zoom out from ITM and look at everything.

📺 Remember when a basic flat-screen TV cost £2,000?

In the early 2000s, only a few could afford it. It was cutting-edge, expensive, and seemed like a luxury. Fast forward 20 years — nearly every household has one. Prices dropped, production scaled, and technology became mainstream.

❌ Grey hydrogen is simply too carbon-intensive — producing it releases ~10 kg of CO₂ for every 1 kg of H₂.

⚠️ Blue hydrogen, while an improvement, still carries significant lifecycle emissions. Studies show that upstream methane leaks and imperfect capture rates can make blue hydrogen nearly as polluting as grey in some cases.

📜 Policymakers are beginning to recognize this. The EU, U.S., and Asia are moving toward standards that heavily favor green hydrogen 🌱 (from renewable electricity via electrolysis). Carbon capture-based hydrogen risks being left behind.

The "biggest Hydrogen City" with the specified capacity is the Yanbu Green Hydrogen Hub in Saudi Arabia, developed by ACWA Power and Germany's EnBW. This facility, set to be operational by 2030, will use 4 GW of electrolysis capacity to produce 400,000 tons of green hydrogen annually, which will then be converted to green ammonia for global export.
