The elephant in the room is BA’s A380 fleet. Air France had nine, originally ten, A380’s which it disposed of last year. Half of them it owned. The €500m hit went in 2020’s last quarter, but as AF is nationalised, the taxpayer took the hit.
BA is in a similar position to AF. Even if BA brought the A380 back into service, it would have to upgrade to Club cabins with the new Club suites just to be consistent with its own product. This would be at a crippling cost for an aircraft where the business sector BA is so heavily dependent on flying the Atlantic, has gone. It is unlikely business travel will ever recover to where it was in 2019.
