SBRY are doing what they can in stiff competitive environment, I think. Great franchise! They need to deliver the cost savings. ALDI were panned the other night on TV for Fire safety and having out of date stock due to bad labelling. They are subsidising their bid to gain market share but for how long? Stick with it SBRY, I say. There are FIs who would like to get this great franchise on the cheap.

In my local large SBRYs, I have noted motivated eager staff who have a great attitude to customers. Engaging you in conversation and showing genuine interest in you as a person. Suggest you try some of the rest (Tesco, Asda, Morrisons and the discounters) who employ brain dead zombies who can hardly find it in themselves to say hello or acknowledge your existence. Recent independent survey suggests BRY are holding there own in sales. My observation's suggest there is a return from Aldi et al, on grounds of service offering (Aldi are across the road).

Thanks for that - seems to be right on with the SBRY strategy of getting value out of the XS space in the larger outlets.

Appears to be a bond issue to raise £250M. Without a set repayment date, with an option to convert into shares at a price currently c30% premium to today. SBRY would pay interest on this, but if they converted to shares, then they would rank the same as shareholders and the debt would be repaid.

MY21, Correction: I was in my local larger Sainsburys last night and came across an expanded Asian food section. Don't know if this is a Ramadan response or an all year round attempt to respond to a cultural niche. There is also a sizable Polish food area as well.

MY21, I have noticed a special section for Caribbean and Jewish foods near me but no special event for Ramadan. Are any special foods eaten. Also the special stocking for Christian Festivals gets earlier each season. I think perhaps SBRY are missing a trick on this one.

The weather is important when it comes to pulled pork and BBQs. They were probably seeking to re-stock for the next day. A good set of results in this climate of re-adjustment. Good to see space franchising , as promised, to Argos. I believe that these are cheap and when the bid comes this price will motor IMHO. This group differentiates by quality and I have found the staff far more welcoming of late, especially when compared to the competitors, where they have done away with the staff and those remaining have a poor unwelcoming attitude. I am happy to be invested here.

No. Some shoppers will, on price, but this just improves the experience in Sainsburys as a goodly number of the ones who move to these rivals are a detriment to the cramped isles of some rivals - full of the dregs etc.. The loyal clientele can afford to buy more and can use the new services and products such as Loans, Insurance and Banking. At the same time, there is opportunity to franchise any spare space in large format stores.

This a great business, with a loyal customer base. They (SBRY) are taking the right actions to trim and sell space and expand into local markets. A dividend is paid. Aldi is not a place that a true SBRY customer wants to be. They may try it, but finding a service desert and lack of choice, quality and most importantly service will return. The same goes for Tesco, Morrisons and the like. Waitrose differentiates by higher price. There is an asset stripping bid coming from the Hedges and Wall Street parasites - SAo buy now before the bid is called while this is cheap as chips!

I tried ALDI several times. I found many counterfeit, look alike products. When you read the content lists there is things you wouldn't find in a quality brand. The place was always busy bit staff were unapproachable and too busy to help. Even in a large footprint store when re-stocking the isles are blocked preventing access to goods. A welcome side effect is that in my local Sainsburys across the road staff are much more attentive and free of peasants and those just after a bargain. The staff are great and have really upped there game in helpfulness. Aldi and LIDL are both redolent of Quicksave which cropped up in the past with a similar offering. Cheap crap is still crap!
