The Kamzwas ore body is divided into three fragments. The first fragment consists primarily of Copper oxide ore of about 17 million tons of ore at an average grade of 1.35% valued at USD 1.95 billion. Most of the ore body is accessible as an outcrop suitable for open pit mining. The second ore body is also primarily Copper oxide of about 42 million tons of ore at an average grade of 2.40% valued at USD 7.5 billion. the ore body is partially in outcrop formation. The third ore body is primarily Copper sulphide ore with some Copper oxides of about 16 million tons of ore at an average grade of 3.2% valued at USD 4.5 billion. The ore body is mainly in an underground formation.
Location and Access:
The Kamzwas mining area is located 50km south of Windhoek on a B1 road to Rehoboth, than a further 7km west from the turn of. The deposit lies on the farm Kamzwas No.253, which is just west of the defunct Oamites mine. The license covers an areas of 108 hectors. The outcrop is 168m above floor levee, 1600m in length and 42m wide.
Description:
Kamzwas mining project is a highly advanced and most viable project. The mining license of the Kamzwas project was granted on the 5th of December 2011 for a period of 10 years and thereafter it would be renewed for a period of 20 years. Thus it is evident that the orebody is ready to be mined. The ideal mining method is open-cast mining. Processing plant operations would involve milling, Ammonia leaching, solvent extraction and electro-winning in order to produce refined copper. Mining license is situated directly west of the decommissioned Oamite Copper Mine. Mineralization in the breccias zone occurs mostly as Cu (malachite, chalcopyrite, bornite), Zn (spahrelite, hermimophite) and Pb (galena).
