RE: Bounce?14 Sep 2018 16:02
Tesla was a more relevant piece of discussion back when it seemed the big auto companies were lagging on EVs. But now they're all gearing up, there really is no special emphasis on Tesla. Indeed, offtake to a major car company could well be significantly higher volumes than Tesla alone.
For EMH, The Volkswagen group is the big prize, as it looks increasingly likely they'll be becoming more directly involved in their battery supply chain and Cinovec is strategically located for them. This is Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, Skoda, Seat, even Bentley and Lamborghini. Hell even Ducati could end up in the EV game (there are electric motorbikes on the market already).
For BCN, I think broader supply to battery factories that serve broad industrial customers is more likely, as we saw with the early Hanwa offtake. There are lots of options and of course the US car industry in general, well beyond Tesla, much of which is in reasonable distance, depending on where the batteries are to be assembled.
Literally every car manufacturer is getting involved - even if it's just hybrids, a lot of lithium is still needed.
That's not even to begin discussing domestic batteries which I believe will be a massive growth sector in the coming years.
