Irish banks are well placed from a fundamentals perspective, with strong capital and funding positions, de-risked balance sheets and attractive organic capital generation. This is also underpinned by high capital requirements and risk weighted densities. New issuance will arise from regulatory needs of minimum requirement for own funds and eligible liabilities (MREL), re-financing or capital efficiency in time rather than funding requirements. In a world of increased volatility, the above factors provide a supportive backdrop to both current and future issuances.
