Talking about productivity
I know someone who works at RM mail centre , through agency, and usually through the summer he has been offered 1 4 hour shift a week, 2 if he's lucky...he's a student so he's been happy with that
Now he says about the belt speed at RM is usually very slow , meaning 3-5 speed level
And if the mangers speed up the belt , the workers slow it back down , when they are not about, especially night shift because less management around
Plus there is a agreement in place between RM and union where they cannot have speeds above certain levels
In addition sometimes they can run out of work 30 - 60 minutes before the shift finishes...this would never happen in amazon
At RM you can listen to music, make receive calls, headphones, earbuds allowed, go for casual works lol
In the new place where he works, the belt is very fast, no music , no phones , and you never run out of work, and if you step out of line, you get shouted out by the line managers
I think a change to USO would help, but RM management and operations need to be much better
Lastly RM mail centre has been very busy since 20th November
They are calling more agency staff compared to before, offering agency staff 5/6 shifts a week now
The shifts are longer 6, 8 12 hours
Plus they have Xmas temps working as wekk
So it's very busy there
