The Company advises that working under the coal mine development MOU with Power Construction Corporation of China, Ltd. ("PowerChina") (refer to RNS of 28 November 2023), it has signed a contract with PowerChina International Group Limited covering mine development works of approximately US$1 billion necessary to facilitate coal extraction at the Phulbari Coal and Power Project ("the Project"). The advancement of this Contract is subject to receiving the approval of the Scheme of Development for coal mining submitted to the Bangladesh Government under the terms and conditions of its Contract for "Exploration and Mining Coal in Northern Bangladesh".

Interestingly, he only had thirty or so seconds before introducing the boss man , but he chose to mention "COAL Mines" and how it would help industrialisation in his constituency, bringing factories and health care to a largely backward rural population that has been stifled by the pervious Hasina Gov for 2 decades.

The draft energy plan has already been formulated by interim government, in which using own coal resources has already been stated.

The new Gov just need to implement it.

Least cost for me means stopping the exorbitant coal imports and using their own resources.

Their existing coal power stations will not go away. They will be fed with cheaper own coal IMHO.

Lol I understated the value of in ground coal and only mentioned one power station. 570M tonnes X $112/ton = 64 billion dollars

The value of coal in ground is circa $40-50 billion over the 30 year mine life. Nice.

But what if you also burnt the stuff the moment you dug it out the ground. How much electricity could be produced and sold via GCM/Power China.

Under no Illusion the GCM will be a very minor stake holder at that future point in time. But even to hold onto 5-10% of "that" would be great.

The gradual news flow coming out of Bangladesh indicating positive policy change toward using own coal is giving investors hope that this politically stranded (20 yrs) monster shallow coal seam will be used.

Mining the coal is not the limit of GCM/Power China ambitions, coal mouth power generation is part of the strategy.

It takes the Chinese just 3 yrs to construct a super critical coal powers station. Clean (as can be) and super efficient.

Hmmm...how long after the GL for mine construction would the permissions for power station be granted?
