RE: Tungsten - WEST vs Tungsten EAST(China)30 Jun 2025 10:29
The UKβs decline in manufacturing and mining can be traced back to the Thatcher years, when public infrastructure was sold off and key industries were dismantled. The UK pivoted to financial services, but this came at a huge cost to the regions that previously powered the economy, coal, steel, textiles etc. London financial services are thriving while much of the rest of the country has been left behind. Rebuilding our production capacity, especially in strategic areas like critical minerals has to be part of any serious national recovery plan. Getting TUN up and running would be a small but excellent first step, along with a few other UK based mining projects. Who knows where this will go though, I'm hoping that the current high dependency on China for critical minerals and the lack of availability of those will be a serious wake up call for this or any subsequent government. I'm also hoping that there will be significant pressure from our allies to get this up and running, even if our government does decide to drag it's feet.
