RE: Time to say goodbye...5 Apr 2024 07:01
Garydav - interesting that you wrote 15% as a stop loss. It just so happens that that is my exact figure too. When are share reaches minus 15% I pull it, crystallise my loss, move on and reinvest the remaining funds elsewhere. I did that here too thank God (well, actually 20% if being 100% honest, as I was just SO conflicted as to what might happen - but it's very unusual for me).
It takes discipline and of course, feels highly counter-intuitive. BUT, as Toffers quite rightly says, you HAVE to just suck it up, move the money and try to recoup it elsewhere. Guaranteed to work every time? No. BUT I can guarantee, that over a decade you WILL win with this approach and save yourself from serious (unrecoverable) financial losses. Never be afraid to crystallise a loss I say.
Think 'portfolio' and cut out weak individual performers, in order to protect it, and grow it. Just like substituting a poorly performing player on the football pitch; for the benefit of the whole team and ultimately, to ensure team success.
Maybe this can serve as a life lesson for folk going forwards, then it hasn't just been a total waste of time, learning - and money? The Stock Market can be a very harsh Master, so we must always be vigilant!! Wishing folk all the very best here. . . . π ATB
