The World Health Organization has changed its stance on masks over time in this pandemic. This has led to diverse interpretations and varying policies from country to country on the use of masks. Although public health agencies in most countries now recommend mandating face-covering against COVID-19, there are no studies comparing various types of masks for face covering in the community settings. Facemasks are primarily a source control measure but are also useful in protecting the wearer from the infection. We read with great interest the article on face-covering inspired by social practices (1). However, the social practices of face-covering cannot be relied entirely upon and are not as effective as medical masking. Cloth masks and dupattas do not form the three layers recommended for masking and do not necessarily seal the mouth and nose areas to avoid the spread of droplets. Cloth facemasks are not subject to regulation and vary widely in layer number, size, and quality.

A randomized controlled trial of 1600 healthcare professionals found a significantly higher rate of all infection outcomes in the cloth mask arm, with the rate of influenza-like illness being 13 times more in cloth mask arm and lab-confirmed viral infection being 1.72 times more in cloth mask arm compared to the medical mask arm (2). This study also reports more than double the penetration of particles by cloth masks than the medical mask (97% vs. 44%). Another study also reported a high penetration of particles through cloth (40-90%) (3). There is also evidence to suggest that the rate of infections decreases as the quality of masks improves (4-6). In a recent systematic review of 172 observational studies (of which 30 studied the masks) across 16 countries and six continents in healthcare and non-health-care settings (n=25,697 patients). N95 face or similar respirators were more effective in reducing the risk of infection compared with disposable surgical masks or similar (e.g., reusable 12–16-layer cotton masks) (4).

Basically you are at risk if you wear a cheap face covering or mask against a quality one. A mask that kills the virus and that is at the correct price point for the professionals and masses is going to highly sought after.

The production lines will produce melt blown nonwoven fabric and surgical masks. Given the shortage of melt blown fabric in the market place, Mondi´s plant in Gronau plans to offer approximately 50% of its production to other face mask manufacturers in Europe.

Mondi can produce up to one million masks a day in their production lines !!!!!!

Masks are coming, billions of them required, massive market. We have something different to this already large market. There is plenty of room. Their use is going is going to go up substantially in all walks of life.

Over the weekend P2F signed binding heads of terms with a manufacturer of surgical masks in Germany. The German manufacturer will subcontract to supply complete masks to P2F to the P2F specification and brand name, and also purchase P2F filter material for their own brand masks. Under the heads of terms the manufacturer will also develop and supply anti-viral C-Fold masks using P2F filter material to extend P2F's market reach. The heads of terms are subject to final contractual agreement between the parties.

He hopes that UK could have the majority of people given the vaccine towards the end of next year and it’s critical to do so before the winter. The most interesting fact and very, very relevant to us here at RMS is that he believes the vaccine will stop most people getting the systems but perhaps only 50% from passing it on !

At a pound mask this is obviously being pitched at the NHS and other professional users. In reality the public will not pay those prices. Some will of course as some people shop a Waitrose and some people will shop at Lidl. We all have our priorities and unfortunately for some our ability to afford the best. If this patented technology is licensed then I see the price point coming down and eventually affordable to all - the way it should be. Going down this route will advance the company and could see massive Europe and international deals with RMS just getting a profit margin of a few pence a mask. When you are talking millions and millions the pennies add up quickly.
Masks are the new normal, not going anywhere. Possibly will be enforced on us by Govts as this retched disease continues to sweep across the world. Big opportunity here guys. Well I suspected RMS would hit 5p. Can’t work out BRH but I’m very happy to be in. I think I’ll be adding early next week as we are so under valued. Great couple of shares and what a future ahead. Can’t see the need for any funding for expansion as I see licensing of the mask etc the way forward. Test to come, what’s not to like. Good weekend all.
