Have recently started price checking, and now buy Persil and Finish dishwasher tablets from B&M, who do XXXL sizes that are much cheaper than other grocers, even when discounted for Nectar/Clubcard offers. Only Costco was marginally cheaper, but you require membership.

Covering analysts don't think so. Loss making businesses can be turned around pretty quickly if the synergies work. The FP acquisition makes sense in several key areas... Even Paul Scott things it's a good idea!!!

@BobbyD not all the TR1 disclosures back up your theory eg UBS held zero shares between 4 July and 15 July. If they had simply been moved the position between portfolios, it would only have been zero for a day/couple of days until they would have needed to disclose again.

A similar sized position is bought/sold every couple of weeks by UBS. As an investor you should probably read company issued RNS announcements...

The company gave a pre-close update at its AGM on 17 June...so next scheduled announcement will be interims, mid-September.

Wasn't suggesting they would - they only buy prestige brands. But the playbook of ramping the SP with an anonymous bid is defo THG! REVB has got great distribution and a strong brand, it's just a financial mess. Boohoo would kill it, it needs a trade buyer.

Mysterious, unspecified offer...ramp the SP...hide the actual performance of the business...where have I seen that before?!? Then also hire one of MM's oldest friends and a former NED to THG... hmmm

Looking at prices at US retailers, they don't yet reflect the level of tariffs that Trump has applied - so there is either of a lot of landed stock to work through or someone is getting squeezed...and REVB doesn't have the cash to reduce its margins.

@Stanley Why do you think firms shouldn’t be able to short? If you think a share price will rise, you buy the shares. If you think shares will fall you sell them. It’s bit like betting on a football match - either team A win or team B wins and you bet accordingly. Now if you think a share price will fall - and in my experience shorts tend to do a lot more work than longs - and have conviction on your position, why should you not leverage your position and borrow to short. I presume you would have no objection to people borrowing to buy more shares?

Now the mechanism of selling short is that you are selling something you don’t own, so you have to borrow the shares in order to deliver them to the person you sold them to. Firms going short pay to borrow the shares. And from whom do they borrow shares from? The custodians that hold the shares on behalf of long term holders - who can choose whether or not their custodians are allowed to borrow.

Shorts are not undermining companies randomly, they have done a lot of work and believe that the shares are overvalued…and therefore sell on behalf of their clients. The risk is greater on shorts than longs, which is why they have to have greater conviction of their investment thesis than longs.

Values in a market where people can only buy or sell would be very short sighted.

MM and you clearly have no idea how equity markets work. THG is at the price it is because of its shocking performance, poor communication and broken promises. Those are the reasons that it has attracted shorts and lost support. Not some random process where a company is targeted for sh*ts and giggles.

Why do you think the company is in decline? £24m profit (actual profit not EBITDA) made last year and rising margins. Don't confuse share price, driven by spivy day traders with the actual health of a company. This is no THG. If you looked at the 8.3 announcements during the acquisition, most institutional investors were buying, not selling.

UK? All REVB's products are made in China. It's the country of origin that attracts tariffs, not the country of incorporation!

@Moniman - when Lookfantastic makes £24m PBT, as Warpaint does, it will be similarly weighted. Just remember the old adage, revenue is flattery, profit is sanity.

Ripley - do you have a link for that news item. I can't see that anyone is reporting a 4% loss - BECAUSE IT ISN'T TRUE! Revenue for 2024 is up 14% and profit up by a third. Revenue is below consensus by 4%, but that's not a loss.
