Puchheim— Bavarian technology combined with South Tyrolean innovation: The result is the second energy-independent and completely emission-free residential building, which the market leader for emission-free fuel cells – Proton Motor Fuel Cell GmbH – was involved in implementing.

Following the apartment building in the Swiss canton of Zurich, a sensational pilot project was officially inaugurated in mid-July 2019 in cooperation with specialists from “GKN Powder Metallurgy” (www.gkn.com) from Bruneck. At the 500 year old “Knappenhaus”, which is located in the northernmost mountain village of South Tyrol at about 1,500 meters, the first “Hy2green” storage system (www.hy2green.de) has been used for renewable energy. The residential property in the Ahrntaler place Kasern had at the start of construction over its own power supply. The goal was to build up a continuous self-sufficient supply of light, electricity and heat for the private home. Project management for energy production is based on the in-house water turbine. The Puchheim experts from Proton Motor, with more than 20 years of experience in the field of high-quality fuel cells, supplied the fuel cell module S8 as an involved partner. With a power capacity of 7.8 kilowatts in stationary use, this Proton engine module provides a part of the power supply to organize the requirement for the purely water-powered construction project.

The challenge of the mountain hut, which is referred to as the historic miners’ house, is the fact that the watercourse decreases significantly in the winter due to frost and icing. Therefore, a new storage technology was a prerequisite to land the natural “green” energy long term. The special feature of Hy2green solid storage is the local production and storage of hydrogen without additional compression in metal powder. The hydrogen serves as storage medium of the originally electrical energy. The metal powder in turn is used as a particularly secure storage medium for hydrogen, Hydrogen is generated from electrical energy by electrolysis and passed into the metal powder filled storage tank from GKN Powder Metallurgy. Here, the hydrogen binds to the metal particles – resulting in the so-called metal hydride, a stable and secure compound.

Aberdeen is set to become the first city in the world to introduce hydrogen-powered double decker buses.

The new additions to the hydrogen fleet will underline the city’s role as a pioneer in green energy.

The contract which was signed this month will deliver 15 city buses. The project has been funded by Aberdeen City Council, European Union (FCH JU) and Scottish Government with an investment of about £500k per vehicle, building on the initial research funding contributed by the Scottish Cities Alliance.

The vehicles will be operated by First on the 19 (Culter to Tillydrone) route and is part funded by the European Union’s JIVE project, which aims to aid commercialisation of hydrogen buses through joint procurement between cities. Cities that will follow Aberdeen’s footsteps include London and Birmingham, with Dundee and Brighton and Hove being lead partners in JIVE2.

David Barnett, Business Development Director for Wrightbus, said: “Wrightbus is delighted to have worked with Aberdeen City Council and First Aberdeen on this exciting project. I know - I am waiting for the penny to drop. Even the logistics is problematic - every time I walk past a car on charge in a public space I look on in disbelief that it can be rolled out countrywide. And that doesn't even cover all the other aspects on materials mining, disposal, battery degradation etc.

Interesting discussion on the ITM board on pollution, drive trains, noise reducing tyres and all up weight of car - courtesy of SpiceMerchant and Bilboburgler.
Refers to:
- an interesting article which said that even if transport went 100% electric, particulates would still be an issue in cities... The reason - Tyre wear (particularly from new noise reducing tyres) and break pad dust will still cause pollution. At least we will be without the NOx, SOx and CO2.
- Depends on drive train. Regenerative breaking does away with break pad wear.
- Depends on design. Lighter cars need less tyre wear. So designed bottom up for H2 will be better than battery heavy Tesla.

Ceres Power and Doosan sign Collaboration and Licensing Agreement for Korean Market

· Ceres and Doosan will work together to develop a Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) power system, for the commercial building market

· Agreement worth £8 million to Ceres over two years

· South Korea is one of the world's leading fuel cell markets, and Doosan is already one of the world's largest developers of fuel cell power systems

Ceres Power (AIM: CWR, "Ceres Power", "Ceres"), a world leading developer of low cost, next generation fuel cell technology and Doosan Corporation ("Doosan"), have signed a Collaboration and Licensing agreement to jointly develop SOFC distributed power systems initially targeted at the Korean commercial building market.

Doosan has established itself as a world leader in the fuel cell industry and is now adding Solid Oxide technology to its existing portfolio of fuel cell technologies. Doosan's existing stationary fuel cell business exceeded 1 trillion won (c. $850 million) in orders for the first time in 2018, three years after entering the market.

The £8 million agreement is over two years and includes licencing, technology transfer and engineering services (subject to attainment of key milestones). Doosan will take a system-level licence of Ceres' proprietary SteelCell SOFC technology to develop a low carbon 5-20kW power system.

South Korea is one of the leading fuel cell markets in the world and has been a core target market for Ceres. It benefits from a supportive regulatory regime and ambitious long-term targets. The South Korean government recently announced several initiatives to promote increased use of renewable generation and hydrogen technology and is targeting fuel cell manufacture for power generation to reach an output of 15 GW by 2040, up from 300 MW today.

Doosan and Ceres will also explore an expansion of the collaboration to access broader applications within South Korea and internationally as well as the potential to include manufacturing.

Phil Caldwell, CEO of Ceres Power said:

"South Korea is a key market for us given their ambition to be a world leader in hydrogen and fuel cells. Doosan have clearly established themselves as the leader in this sector and are the ideal partner for us to enter into the Korean market, adding to our strategic partnerships with Weichai in China and Bosch."

I for one, as a long term holder, am holding long and strong and am expecting a rise tomorrow. I personally don't apply fundamentals to stocks like this.

I personally find it quite bizarre when posters say particular stocks are great whilst finding a long list of negatives on reasons why they are out but continue to watch and write quite lengthy posts. Red flags if you like.
