Have narrowed it down to 3 distilleries 2 Scottish and 1 Japanese. Only looking at 30+ year old expressions with 91%+ tasting notes at full cask strength and having a rarity value like less than 500 bottles.

Investment in whiskey is not for the feint hearted. I was sort of lucky the first time as I was contracted to Diageo on full expenses which allowed me to enjoy paid samples of more than a few different distilleries. I researched the one I enjoyed most the lovely Rosebank of Falkirk which was for a time defunct and which Deagio took over. I settled on a 25 year old with 91% tasting notes from one barrel producing 4710 bottles at cask strength. Bought a few bottles for £175 each and the following year the price was £400 so bought a few more. Now it is around £3500.

Although I have only dabbled in whiskey I feel it is the way to go. The Indians and Asians in particular have and are going for it big time. Even the Japanese have some very excellent expressions. I am not going for casks as it is too risky but proven bottled versions interest me more. Best consult tasting notes by experts and remember that the Scots prefer harsh highland varients which go up in value more than the smoother tasting ones. Also, the longer it is in the cask then the more expensive it is as it evaporates 2 to 3% per year. If you choose right it will go up in value…..very rarely does he value go down.

Don’t forget it doesn’t have value when opened and in your stomach.
