LONDON (ShareCast) - Australian coking coal producer Caledon Resources saw third quarter production levels slide year-on-year. Raw coal production in the three months to 30 September fell 17% to 139,000 tonnes from 167,000 tonnes in the corresponding period of 2008. Coking coal produced tumbled 29% to 87,000 tonnes from 123,000 tonnes a year earlier, but thermal coal production improved 4% to 23,000 tonnes from 22,000 tonnes. The company said production is on schedule to increase in the fourth quarter which should result in the production of saleable coal for 2009 being in the region of 0.5m tonnes. The company is in the process of shifting its primary mining operations to relocate at the new Argo pit bottom area of the company’s Cook mine, and production should commence here in January 2010.
