When I was in my twenties and working in electronic engineering, I visited JET at the Culham Centre in Oxfordshire. They needed some specialist electronics designing and manufacturing. A top engineer told me then that a fusion breakthrough was unlikely in his lifetime, or mine! I’m 71 now, retired as is JET. They never did get the Q factor above the magical unity. About 66% was achieved I believe, which was (maybe is still) the best achieved. So good luck to anyone involved in attempting this: it ain’t easy.
