From my reading the difference is the fact that MSAR is atomised - this means that in the even of a spill, the oil separates very finely and is then digested by microbes. With Orimulsion, the bitumen separates as one and sinks to the bottom as a sludge. This may not be correct but it's what I got from reading about them.

I don't think you can validly say that about a feeling, it's unfalsifiable. But I'd hazard it's the same thing as feeling a connection to a football team you've supported all your life, even though they don't know you exist. It might be objectively silly but it's widely accepted.
