The true value of this share will eventually be recognised as market pivots towards less risky assets.Inflation & higher interests rates will expedite the trend+recent hard management decisions.
RITHOLTZ Wealth Management. https://ritholtzwealth.com/"Day trading is not easy money. For example, a study of Brazilian day traders found 97% lost money and only 1% earned more than Brazilians minimum wage.It is, the study concluded, virtually impossible to day trade for a living"
Members of Robinhood attest to this zero sum game.
BoI at current valuations is a buy & hold. It is a sound company in a fast recovering market with less competition as more exits from the market are expected this week.Total number of Bank/Mortgage exits during last 10 years is at least 16.With an encumbered state bank, and a few Lilliput's in abeyance, BOI has a free run for the foreseeable future.
QED
David Mc Williams, Irish Times, 13/2/21. "Putting all this together, and adding to the fact that we have to catch up on lost time,Ireland needs to build close to 60,000 units per year to stablise the housing market. This is significantly higher than the Government's 25,000 estimate.Ulster Bank future: RTE Business, 13/2/21. "A move by AIB or Bank of Ireland to merge with Ulster Bank seems less likely, but they clearly would be interested in looking at parts of the business, were it up for sale".
Ulster Bank has 11% of Irish Mortgage market.
Whilst the mortgage market is not a license to print money eg , too much legislation and litigation, too much political interference and constant regulatory changes to satisfy small political whims.
A big moat is keeping competition at bay.BoI has 27% of the current market, approx. Do the sums, please.
Wexford.
AIB is 71% owned by Irish State. Next election could see a Populist Green bellicose in majority, certainly they will be a significant part of any government.Recent rhetoric from same would see an AIB Bolshevik Bank, where then your shares and investments? As economy recovers post pandemic we will see a howl of "AIB is ours, we saved them from themselves for ourselves"
Ireland has many, many, advantages but my great fear is that unless we urgently address the youth unemployment then POPULIST nonsense will determine the next election.
Following the Roaring 20's lessons should have been learned but events since confirm nothing was learned as too many cavalier mistakes bear witness to this.
A reckoning will arrive unheralded one day, it always does.
Equity performance during times of Pandemics.
https://topforeignstocks.com/2020/02/28/major-world-epidemics-and-global-stock-market-performance-chart/ See the link to Schwab in body of article for deeper elucidation.Consider events during the last 50 years: cold war, Vietnam war, multiple middle east wars, china, africa, many stock market collapses, nuclear threat, North of Ireland, bank & financial systems collapses and all types of ruinations. Yet equities come out on top over, time all the time.
Bank of Ireland is a good prospect for those who take a medium to long view. Day trading, by my logic, is a zero sum game and to be avoided. Many factors favour BoI, low P/E, NIM, ROI, NPL's( nearly finalised). It would not surprise to see Bank aligning with the average Index P/E range of 15 to 20 and an SP range of €9 to €12.00.Newbie digital banks are not a real threat yet as they provide very limited services and will falter when established providers announce their offerings, any day now. Some of these Digitals are registered out side of jurisdiction. Irish retail Banks provide a more comprehensive portfolio and are very well supervised by a more robust Irish Central Bank and EU authorities.
Organic bank growth, dividends, recovering economy, inflation, interest rate increases, legacy tax write off-s a future +. Mortgage demands and compounding effect will see an investment at these prices rewarded.
Of course there are uncertainties. Current high US equity prices frothy, global recession if Covid is not conquered or a global financial failure, a too steep increase in interest rates by FED. On the home front ,one of the big dangers to the Irish economy is inequality and the rise of Green Populism of one particular party. I'm not referring to the Green Party and the "Nationalise" wail by supposed policy makers who have nothing to offer but poison to political/public discourse.
Bank of Ireland is a mirror image of Irish economy and future.
Remember there are always unforeseen events which can scupper plans. Two in the last 12 years.
Newbie digital banks have very limited services, some registered outside of jurisdiction. Irish retail Banks provide a more comprehensive portfolio of products and services.
Recently too much nonsense of a personal nature has been published here, so let's keep to business.
Best regards to all.
Solid pr with some welcome sentiments.

BoI: Why it is a value buy at current P/E. Irish Banks well capitalised,Irish economy returning to fast growth e.g. consumer spending, house purchases, BOI 24% share of Irish Mortgage market and Ulster Bank exiting, stimulus leads to inflation ipso facto to higher interest rates good for investors, return of dividend, increase in Irish exports especially IT Services and Pharma, distressed debt not on a par with 2007/8 and aftermath, current debt manageable with generous provision baked in, good NIM, ROI to improve. Note P/E of following entities:BoI P/E. 5.45, Barclays 16.3, LLoyds 10, Wells Fargo 39.80, Bank SanTander 7.93, FBD 29.08 , Ryanair 15.10
Is RYANAIR 3 x better value than BoI?
We are in an era of return to value stocks
One provision. One can't predict the future but recovery is inevitable.

I'm uneasy with DeG when replies are delayed and difficult queries are not replied to. IT competence maybe an issue.
You need a good reliable broadband.
Good luck and hasten slowly.
My understanding is De Giro has no physical presence here in Ireland.Correspondence has been with a UK Office to date.

My experience is mixed and I have concerns with their backend capacity which results in weeks waiting for replies. All queries are not replied to which is very, very worrying too!
Site could be simpler and more consumer/public friendly.
Thank you.
New to forum but a long time investor in BoI. Comments published are very interesting, informative, great exchanges if a little too topical at times.
Buying and holding since April. De Giro broker.
Could I test the collective on the following:
Is BoI a bank or a mortgage provider?By side stepping the digital rush are they missing a trick or by hanging back are providers at forefront of digital dash likely to self cannibalise!
Any profit in these transactions towards bottom line.
All financial ratios suggest BoI is a good value buy with good capital strength.
Your comments appreciated.
Thanks and good fortune to all in the near future.
