RE: Greatland Gold digging up surprises at new mine - Investor's Chronicle6 Feb 2025 17:48
“While the Newcrest approach was always to think about it in the paradigm of a single decline, we really think about it from first principles, and think 'what is the optimal mining rate, and then how do we back solve infrastructure around that?'”
A decline, the main tunnel into the mine workings, is used to ferry large machinery and ore out of the mine. Greatland has been at work on the Havieron decline for years. As of December, 2.1km of the total 2.8km of development to reach the orebody is done, with 80 vertical metres remaining. The “base case” remains a single decline; the plan will be confirmed later this year.
