So why offer cheap, long date options to all these employees and indirect employees and why make specific reference to each individual company? Therefore SOLG is referenced. ENSA is referenced and the 4 Ecuador subs are referenced. Why? Does Mather expect offers for each individual company? Divide and rule?

It looks like Mather's being forced to buy employee loyalty at our expense and without a cash expense to the company

I'm also conscious of the presence of BHP, Newcrest and other majors sniffing around SOLG. What influence does this have for today's news? Are the two connected? Is the options news tied to keeping staff sweet and onboard when the company is bought out by another company? (retaining important staff and preventing competing companies from 'stealing' important, knowledgeable SOLG staff?)

I'm convinced BHP's got some involvement here. I can smell their presence. The recent BHP share placement and now this? The two are surely related?!!

Gunner must be right behind NT onshore fracking and with INPEX on board as well this I would say prevents slippage by a Labour government (NT) who doesn't think twice about pandering to its activist wing. Monte - Why is the 3 years important? I'll be honest and admit that my understanding of the nature of options is absolutely limited to the basics but I also appreciate the dilutive effect of such 'free lunch' share issues so I am trying to get a handle on why 3 years and not say, 12 months is of such great importance? Almost anything can happen in 3 years. We could get an offer in the morning for all we know. What's Mather's reasoning for structuring the options in this way? Why 60p? Why 3 years expiration?

Good point, well made. Clever politics from Mather. With anti-mining activism on the rise in Ecuador it is important that Mather maximises fundamental value and hands over the reins to a major(s) who is(are) able to absorb such political uncertainties

I say good luck to them. Yes, the options are mispriced and lack 'ambition' but Mather's stocking employees up that will allow them to benefit massively from the offer that we all know is coming. Yes, it's a tad taking the p-ss but such is the nature of buying shares in listed companies.

Try to focus on the fundamental value of the company and fundamental news Mather's got in store

Yes, she's learning her craft so it's to be expected she's going to be a tad nervy but her confidence and her style will improve dramatically the more she exposes herself to that task and environment.
