I am convinced that what we are seeing is the market looking for a reason to sell off and the virus outbreak is that reason. Yes, it's a serious issue but it isn't a systemic threat compared to Oct 2008 when the global financial system teetered on the brink. This is a temporary phenomenon. If you have the cash then load up at lower prices

and the term 'strategic importance'. GGP management have superb appreciation of corporate behaviour. They know Newcrest see Telfer as having a new and fresh future and they'll extract all they can from that change in direction

Note - 'Newcrest making moves'. I believe Newcrest now see Telfer (following Havieron discovery) as a new found source of real earnings growth and they will build around that. A new lease of life for Telfer and Sandeep's conscious of that. Why Newcrest is still in Ecuador for example is beyond me. Let BHP have Cascabel

It's difficult to ignore the current market mayhem we are seeing around us but I for one believe GGP is the perfect stock to be in. Being in the right place at the right time is what GGP is now all about. A bun fight for land in the Paterson is underway. Now is NOT the time to sell

Companies release price sensitive news according to the rules on the exchange on which they are listed. The prevailing market conditions at the time have no relevance to that decision

Newcrest have left Antipa to do the drilling for the first 2 years. But notice Newcrest haven't taken a passenger seat at havieron, in fact they're at the wheel with their foot rammed down hard on the accelerator.

this is a good sign for any explorer in the region. majors buying access to exploration assets in the Paterson. I suspect this trend will continue throughout the year

Will be interesting to see the details of this when it's released in a few minutes time

I wonder if GGP will release any news regarding other tenements and Newcrest?

It's no coincidence that Biswas chose to highlight Red Chris and Havieron at his latest presentation. It looks like Newcrest's investing a lot of faith in these two assets. That should be obvious to anyone. Biswas has hardly concealed his excitement about the potential of Havieron. I wouldn't be surprised if the next time he presented and waxed lyrical about Havieron that he came on stage doing cartwheels.

Take a look at the crappy output levels for the other assets and the increasing production costs (AISC). He's no muppet. He knows Havieron has the ability to inject leverage into Telfer's earnings thanks to Hav's high grade nature

I think they do hedge a % of production at Telfer which doesn't help its earnings from Telfer especially

And I ignore that nonsense about the all-encompassing AISC (the average) across Newcrest. This conceals a multitude of sins

I do like the fact that the MMs try to crush trading by whacking the spread out. For a liquid stock of this size and volume that's unusual. It's almost a positive cos the MMs know there's latent demand here. Their defensive is a positive sign cos they know they'll be hit with buying if they bring it down too much
