Yes, there's a rather subtle gentlemen's agreement that exists that it would be bad form for a MM to quote a price either side way outside the indicative price but I suspect that's dispensed with when markets become frisky. It's every man for himself, as it were. And then you have the NMS.
Each MM will only trade at certain prices if it's advantageous for them to do so and according to the status of their own book...they're hardly gonna give you a wonderful price if they don't want your stock

Hawk - I've been there mate. Sat on massive profits thinking the price would go higher and then seeing the price reverse and watching as your £50k profit or whatever simply disappears into thin air. An utterly dreadful feeling as you agonise over what you could have bought with that cash..a brand new car, mortgage paid off, helping the children with their education etc etc...this stockmarket lark can lift you up and then crush you mercilessly if you don't know what you're doing or fail to handle your capital wisely and sensibly

of course, there's no hard and fast rules, we play it by ear...it's a massive examination of your judgement and if that's askew you can end up in the gutter, literally
