New Ministry to Lead the Territory’s Economic Recovery

Chief Minister Michael Gunner has today announced the members of the new Northern Territory Government’s Ministry.

The new Cabinet’s task is to keep steering the Territory through the coronavirus crisis and make the Territory Australia’s comeback capital.

This is a jobs-first Cabinet. The economic recovery team is spearheaded by the Chief Minister who will also be Treasurer, Minister for Major Projects and Territory Economic Reconstruction, and Minister for Strategic Defence relations.

A line to Darwin suggests LNG export to Asia and/or source gas for a manufacturing hub . The contract award must be have been sat on someone's desk awaiting the result of last week's NT elections. It's not lack of progress, it's Mather keeping his cards close to his chest. CGP did accuse Mather of having informational advantage due to SOLG's operator status. Mather's playing a game of corporate hide and seek cos he knows how much BHP want SOLG or certainly Cascabel.

What sticks in my mind and this goes back years, is BHP's willingness to accept purdah and silence (Standstill) for 2 years. For SOLG to demand this from BHP and have it accepted screams of a company (BHP) wiling to sell their own granny to get first dibs on SOLG and their T1 discovery and huge exploration portfolio. Mike Henry did refer to more exploration
