Sell ASOS - buy Ferrari!28 Oct 2011 16:01
This posting is probably a bit late as I meant to post it months ago! I bought 30,000 ASOS shares back in 2004 at 27p each, they were recommended in one of two magazines either Momentum Investor or Sharewatch, I forget which. I also bought into Tullow Oil, Peter Hambro Mining, Burren Energy and various other small companies from recommendations in the same magazines. Some of the companies fell out of bed so far they went into the basement but others, like the three mentioned, took off. When the ASOS shares got over £18 earlier this year I sold 5000 of them and bought a Ferrari F430. No tax to pay as I had also accumulated losses of £100,000 on the investments which didn't work quite so well. Even taking into account the losses my whole portfolio is still extremely healthy (touch wood) and I have done most of it using suggestions from the two magazines mentioned.
When I started along the investment route back in the early eighties I used an investment firm followed by a high street bank and I was so disillusioned with the way they handled things that by around the year 2000 I decided to take matters into my own hands and have never looked back. Obviously, this is only possible with internet banking where I can go online and deal instantly and cheaply but my experience shows that if you can afford to take the risk potentially huge rewards are out there. It also illustrates how sitting tight and riding out dips in the market is the best policy!
